Negli ultimi due decenni si \u00e8 verificato un lento ma profondo cambiamento nei meccanismi utilizzati per determinare il prezzo di beni e servizi, in particolare dei normali beni di consumo.<\/div>\n
Questo fenomeno si manifesta in maniera eclatante nel prezzo dell\u2019elettricit\u00e0 in cui, a causa dell\u2019influenza dominante della privatizzazione, il mercato assomiglia pi\u00f9 ad un cartello che ad un ambiente caratterizzato da onesta concorrenza.<\/div>\n
Sembra che l\u2019unica regolamentazione che abbia funzionato sia stata quella di concedere all\u2019industria aumenti di prezzo trasparenti, come le tariffe elettriche e le pratiche di sconto, che confondono i consumatori e generalmente rendono difficile comparare i rivenditori.<\/div>\n
I tempi in cui il prezzo dei beni e servizi era correlato ai costi di produzione, e il margine di profitto era temperato da concorrenti indipendenti, sono ormai lontani.<\/div>\n
I prezzi dell\u2019elettricit\u00e0 hanno sconcertato i governi e le agenzie governative, che hanno la responsabilit\u00e0 di salvaguardare gli interessi dei consumatori. Il miglior suggerimento dato finora \u00e8 stato quello di guardarsi intorno per l\u2019elettricit\u00e0. Gli stessi consigli sono stati dati, tra le altre cose, anche per affrontare i problemi sistemici dei prezzi nel settore bancario, nei servizi di telefonia e nei prezzi della benzina.<\/div>\n
Il mistero dei prezzi \u00e8 sconcertante, pi\u00f9 che in ogni altro ambito, nei prezzi elevati della benzina, nonostante l\u2019andamento del prezzo del petrolio greggio sia andato al ribasso, con un picco recente nel giugno 2014 di quasi $ 100, rispetto al prezzo attuale di circa $ 40 al barile.<\/div>\n
Nel settore dell\u2019elettricit\u00e0 la situazione, in mancanza di pressione pubblica, \u00e8 destinata a degenerare per i consumatori e a rigenerarsi per i profittatori.<\/div>\n
Gli investitori pi\u00f9 scaltri nel settore dei combustibili fossili si stanno rendendo conto che il sole, il vento e l\u2019acqua utilizzati per generare elettricit\u00e0 sono gratuiti, per cui se riusciranno a mantenere l\u2019attuale regime dei prezzi, potranno continuare ad intascare quello che una volta era l\u2019immane costo per esplorare, estrarre, raffinare, trasportare e trasformare il combustibile fossile.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Over the past couple of decades a slow but profound change has taken place in the mechanisms used to determine the price of goods and services particularly of regular consumables.<\/div>\n
Nowhere is this more evident than in the price of electricity where, since and through the dominant influence of privatisation, the electricity market resembles more a cartel than authentic competitors keeping each other honest.<\/div>\n
It seems that the only regulation that has worked is that of conceding price increases to the industry that are as transparent as electricity rates and discounting practices that confuse consumers and generally make it difficult to compare retailers.<\/div>\n
The days when the price of goods and services were related to their production costs, and a profit margin that was tempered by independent competitors, are long gone.<\/div>\n
Electricity prices have baffled governments and government agencies that have responsibility for safeguarding consumer interests. The best advice so far has been to shop around for electricity but also for dealing with systemic price problems such as in banking, telephony services and petrol prices, among others.<\/div>\n
The mystery of prices is nowhere more evident than in high petrol prices notwithstanding the fact that the trend in the price of crude oil has been downward with a recent peak in June 2014 of nearly $100 to the current price of about $40 a barrel.<\/div>\n
In electricity the situation without public pressure is set to degenerate for consumers and regenerate for its profiteers.<\/div>\n
The more astute of the former fossil fuel interests realize that the sun, wind and water used to generate electricity is free and, if they get to keep the current price regime, they can pocket what was once the considerable cost of exploring, extracting, refining, transporting and transforming the fossil fuel.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
