COVID-19 riscopre i contanti<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

L\u2019attuale pandemia ha messo in luce in modo drammatico molte delle carenze dell\u2019economia di mercato.<\/span><\/span>
\nPer coloro che gi\u00e0 prestavano attenzione a questi argomenti le carenze erano evidenti da tempo e le tendenze innegabili.<\/span><\/span>
\nI segnali chiave di questa preoccupante situazione globale includevano una crescita stagnante, una disoccupazione ostinata e in aumento, alti livelli di indebitamento nella sfera pubblica e personale, difficolt\u00e0 di finanziamento dei servizi sociali essenziali, disuguaglianze radicate e crescenti e costi incombenti del mercato causati dal cambiamento climatico.<\/span><\/span>
\nTuttavia, la pandemia ha anche messo a nudo la quantit\u00e0 inimmaginabile di capitale detenuto dalle istituzioni finanziarie e dagli ultra ricchi.<\/span><\/span>
\nOrganismi influenti come il Fondo monetario internazionale, la Banca mondiale e la Banca centrale europea sono stati in prima linea nel fornire denaro per sostenere l\u2019economia di mercato.<\/span><\/span>
\nNel suo discorso al Forum per la pace di Parigi il 12 novembre del 2020, l\u2019amministratore delegato del FMI Kristalina Georgieva ha espresso il valore combinato dell\u2019azione sincronizzata dei governi e delle banche centrali per \u201cmettere un pavimento all\u2019economia mondiale\u201d:12 trilioni di dollari.<\/span><\/span>

\nL\u2019altro \u00e8 che l\u2019economia di mercato aveva prodotto quest\u2019ultima recessione globale, che era all\u2019orizzonte prima della pandemia, e che probabilmente peggiorer\u00e0 data la rivoluzione profonda e in gran parte nascosta dall\u2019uso dirompente di computer, Internet e sistemi basati sull\u2019intelligenza artificiale e processi.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

COVID-19 uncovers the cash<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

The current pandemic has dramatically exposed many of the market economy\u2019s shortcomings.<\/span><\/span>
\nFor those paying attention to these matters the shortcomings had been evident for a long time and the trends undeniable.<\/span><\/span>
\nKey signs of this worrying global situation included stagnating growth, stubborn and increasing unemployment, high levels of indebtedness in the public and personal spheres, difficulties of funding essential social services, entrenched and growing inequality and looming costs of market made climate change.<\/span><\/span>
\nHowever, the pandemic has also exposed the unimaginable amount of capital that is held by financial institutions and the ultra rich.<\/span><\/span>
\nInfluential bodies like the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and the European Central Bank have been at the forefront of providing money to support the market economy.<\/span><\/span>
\nIn her address to the 2020 Paris Peace Forum in November 12 the IMF\u2019s Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva put the combined value of the synchronized action by governments and central banks to \u2018put a floor under the world economy\u2019 at $12 trillion.<\/span><\/span>
\nThat amount is likely to increase with the financial world urging governments to continue spending as long as necessary to support the market economy.<\/span><\/span>
\nThere are a number of inherent problems in this approach that are masked by the confluence of the pandemic with, in the words of the IMF, the \u2018worst recession since the Great Depression\u2019.<\/span><\/span>
\nOne is that the pandemic will pass if not through a vaccine then through advancements in medical treatments and health services, defensive and preventative social practices and natural immunity.<\/span><\/span>
\nThe other is that the market economy had produced this latest global recession, that was on the horizon before the pandemic, and which is likely to worsen given the\u00a0 profound and largely hidden revolution from deeply disruptive applications of computer, internet and artificial intelligence-based systems and processes.<\/span><\/span>
