Nel rispondere al Covid i governi non si sono consultati con il pubblico a nessun livello e hanno fatto il passo straordinario di fare riferimento solo ai loro esperti medici designati.<\/p>\n
Straordinario perch\u00e9 la pi\u00f9 ampia professione medica non \u00e8 mai stata consultata e, come il pubblico, ha accettato in buona fede la pericolosit\u00e0 del virus.<\/p>\n
L\u2019apparente abbandono dell\u2019autorit\u00e0\/democrazia politica in ossequio a pochi esperti, che ha avuto impatto in quasi tutte le sfere della vita, non era mai avvenuto prima nelle democrazie parlamentari.<\/p>\n
Nemmeno di fronte ai drammatici e imminenti pericoli del cambiamento climatico i governi si sono rimessi all\u2019autorit\u00e0 del consenso quasi unanime della comunit\u00e0 scientifica.<\/p>\n
Immaginate il trambusto se di fronte alla cronica incapacit\u00e0 dei governi di gestire i budget, si fosse suggerito che economisti e contabili esperti dovessero dettare misure.<\/p>\n
L\u2019Italia, consueto laboratorio politico occidentale, sta attualmente sperimentando una variazione della regola degli esperti, con l\u2019insediamento di un\u2019autorit\u00e0 finanziaria esterna alla Presidenza del Consiglio, anche se con l\u2019acquiescenza del Parlamento.<\/p>\n
Per quanto riguarda il Covid il compito era e rimane quello di una migliore protezione per i pi\u00f9 vulnerabili e di migliori servizi ospedalieri e sanitari per curare i malati.<\/p>\n
Secondo l\u2019Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation della Washington University e i dati sulla mortalit\u00e0 dell\u2019ABS, l\u2019Australia ha registrato finora quasi 13.000 decessi in meno nei due anni della pandemia rispetto a quanto ci si sarebbe normalmente aspettati.<\/p>\n
Poich\u00e9 l\u2019esperienza e la conoscenza oscurano la paura della pandemia, i governi devono ripristinare urgentemente i processi democratici e l\u2019espansione, non la restrizione, del coinvolgimento pubblico.<\/p>\n

For about two years governments have put aside other major issues or engagement of their constituents in those issues.<\/p>\n
In responding to Covid governments have not consulted with the public at any level and took the extraordinary step to refer only to their designated medical experts.<\/p>\n
Extraordinary because the broader medical profession was never consulted and, like the public, was left to accept in good faith the perilousness of the virus.<\/p>\n
The seemingly abandonment of political authority\/democracy in deference to a few experts, whose impact has been widespread in nearly all spheres of life, had not happened before in parliamentary democracies.<\/p>\n
Not even in the face of dramatic and imminent dangers of climate change have governments deferred to the authority of the almost unanimous consensus of the scientific community.<\/p>\n
Imagine the uproar if in the face of governments\u2019 chronic inability to manage budgets it was suggested that expert economists and accountants should dictate measures.<\/p>\n
Italy, continuing its display as a Western political laboratory, at the moment is experiencing a variation of the rule of experts, with the installing of an external financial authority as Prime Minister, albeit with Parliament\u2019s acquiescence.<\/p>\n
With regards to Covid the task was and still remains that of better protection for the vulnerable and improved hospital and health services to treat the affected.<\/p>\n
According to Washington University\u2019s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and ABS fatality data, Australia has so far recorded almost 13,000 fewer deaths across the two years of the pandemic than would typically have occurred.<\/p>\n
As experience and knowledge overshadow the pandemic fear, governments need to urgently restore democratic processes and the expansion, not restriction, of public involvement.<\/p>\n
