I tre paesi che hanno speso di pi\u00f9 nel 2022, Stati Uniti, Cina e Russia, rappresentano il 56% del totale mondiale.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gli Stati Uniti rimangono di gran lunga il pi\u00f9 grande investitore militare del mondo con 877 miliardi di dollari nel 2022, pari al 39% della spesa militare globale totale e di tre volte superiore all\u2019importo speso dalla Cina.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anche il recente impegno dell\u2019Australia nell\u2019acquistare tre sottomarini a propulsione nucleare e costruirne altri otto per un costo fino a 368 miliardi di dollari \u00e8 indicativo del fatto che il denaro non \u00e8 n\u00e9 un onere del debito n\u00e9 una maledizione dell\u2019inflazione.<\/p>\n<p>I governi possono creare la pace interna o prepararsi a presunte guerre.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Create domestic peace not fanciful wars<\/h2>\n<p><strong>by Frank Barbaro<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Governments universally bemoan the tough budgetary decisions they face arguing the limits imposed by the need to cut or contain debt.<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s Federal Labor Government, during its first year since being elected, has come to realise that key significant portfolio areas such as health, migration, taxation, industrial relations and defence, to name a few, are \u2018broken and not fit for purpose\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>This is a significant admission which should be a good start to overcoming systemic dysfunctions, particularly those that add to discomfort, disadvantage and destitution.<\/p>\n<p>A glance around the Western World suggests that this syndrome of not having enough money to guarantee even basic social needs and social infrastructure, is commonplace.<\/p>\n<p>However, while governments wring their hands over how hard their task is of choosing what to fund there appear to be no such dilemmas when it comes to providing tax incentives to the affluent and spending on defence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute total global military expenditure increased by 3.7 per cent in real terms in 2022, to reach a new high of $2240 billion. Military expenditure in Europe saw its steepest year-on-year increase in at least 30 years.
