It\u2019s the money that counts<\/b><\/h3>\n

The recent spectacular public disagreement between the presidents of the US and Ukraine showed the naked self interest at play in foreign affairs which is often hidden or camouflaged.
\nGone was the pretence that this was primarily about peace or good against evil or democracy against dictatorship.
\nIt was fully fledged bartering as a belligerent President Donald Trump belittled a bewildered Ukraine President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who until this point had been led to believe that he was the bulwark of freedom for the West which backed him with military support and money.
\nTrump rightly pointed out that without that support Ukraine\u2019s resistance to Russia\u2019s war would have been short lived and the price for peace now was a return to US interests on the money outlayed.<\/p>\n

Any Australian dismayed at Trump\u2019s behaviour should remember the disgraceful spying by its government on one of the poorest nations, Timor-Leste, in 2004 while negotiating territorial borders, to gain a financial advantage.
\nTrump has unravelled the story that the Russia and Ukraine war was all about aggression and territorial ambition and it is to be seen how Zelenskyy and Europe will adjust to this changing narrative.
\nAustralia too has the unenviable task of whether to stick to its professed support of Ukraine or continue its too often blind trust on American beneficence.<\/p>\n

It is not enough that Australia recently made its first $797 million million \u00a0payment to the US under the AUKUS nuclear submarine program which is forecast to cost $268bn to $368bn.<\/p>\n

Just over a week ago Australia\u2019s $4.1 trillion pension fund industry was in the US with the message \u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re ready to invest in America\u2019s future.\u201d
\nIt would seem that Australia has no investment needs or prospects and that it too wants to make America great again.<\/p>\n

E\u2019 il denaro che conta<\/b><\/h3>\n

Il recente spettacolare disaccordo pubblico tra i presidenti degli Stati Uniti e dell\u2019Ucraina ha mostrato il mero interesse personale in gioco negli affari esteri, spesso nascosto o camuffato.
\n\u00c8 scomparsa la pretesa che si trattasse principalmente di pace, di bene contro il male, o di democrazia contro dittatura.
\nSi \u00e8 trattato di un vero e proprio baratto, quando il bellicoso presidente Donald Trump ha sminuito lo sconcertato presidente ucraino, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, il quale fino a quel momento era stato portato a credere di essere il baluardo della libert\u00e0 per l\u2019Occidente, che lo ha sostenuto con sostegno militare e denaro.
\nTrump ha giustamente sottolineato che senza quel sostegno la resistenza dell\u2019Ucraina alla guerra della Russia sarebbe stata di breve durata, e il prezzo per la pace ora consisterebbe in un ritorno agli interessi degli Stati Uniti sul denaro speso.<\/p>\n

Qualsiasi australiano sgomento per il comportamento di Trump dovrebbe ricordare il vergognoso spionaggio da parte del suo governo nel 2004 ai danni di una delle nazioni pi\u00f9 povere, Timor Est, mentre negoziava i confini territoriali, al fine di ottenere vantaggi finanziari.
\nIl presidente americano ha rivelato che la guerra tra Russia e Ucraina era tutta una questione di aggressione e ambizione territoriale, ed \u00e8 da vedere come Zelenskyj e l\u2019Europa si adatteranno a questa nuova narrativa.
\nAnche l\u2019Australia ha il compito poco invidiabile di decidere se mantenere il suo dichiarato sostegno all\u2019Ucraina o, come di consueto, continuare a riporre cieca fiducia nella benevolenza americana.<\/p>\n

Non \u00e8 sufficiente che l\u2019Australia abbia recentemente effettuato il suo primo pagamento di 797 milioni di dollari agli Stati Uniti nell\u2019ambito del programma per i sottomarini nucleari AUKUS, che si prevede coster\u00e0 dai 268 ai 368 miliardi di dollari.<\/p>\n

Poco pi\u00f9 di una settimana fa il settore dei fondi pensione australiano da 4,1 trilioni di dollari era negli Stati Uniti con il messaggio \u201cSiamo pronti a investire nel futuro dell\u2019America\u201d.
\nSembrerebbe che l\u2019Australia non abbia esigenze n\u00e9 prospettive di investimenti e che anch\u2019essa voglia rendere di nuovo grande l\u2019America.<\/p>\n
